Oakland, CA and Brooklyn, NY—Today, Green For All and The League of Young Voters Education Fund have released The Green Room Mixtape hosted by DJ Willie Shakes in honor of Earth Day. The mixtape features music from some of today's hottest hip-hop and R&B acts including Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, BJ the Chicago Kid and Dee-1. The music featured on The Green Room Mixtaperepresents communities from across the U.S., and those who download the free mixtape will also receive the Block Rockers Toolkit with resources to help them green their community.

“The Green Room Mixtape and the Block Rockers Toolkit were created to inspire young people to take action in their communities,” said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All. “Building gardens, retrofitting homes and living more sustainably matters, and this type of change starts with individuals who believe they can make a difference.”

"Urban Americans are incredibly mobile, and incredibly tuned in - through our ipods, ipads, laptops and smartphones," Sam Patton, Associate Director. "The Green Room is a reminder to check in on Mother Nature, see how she's doing and to dream big about the ways we can change our own lives, and the world, for the better."

The title of The Green Room Mixtape reflects what every community needs to thrive – green room. It stands for city parks in place of concrete, local grocery chains providing real food for communities and space for all people to breathe, live and build a community. The “green room” is also a safe haven for artists and visionaries as they prepare to entertain and inspire. This Earth Day 2012 mixtape aims to do both.

"The Green Room project is filled with a bunch of the game's freshest, dopest artists that the cool kids are listening to," DJ Willie Shakes said. "As a DJ, it's my responsibility to help steer the crowd into the right direction. Green is the way to go! So in a sense, I'm one of the few with the key to Green Room."

The Green Room Mixtape is available for free download at www.greenroommixtape.com, and you can follow the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #greenroom.  Click here to learn more about the Block Rockers tool kit.   And click here to watch the video.
