College Ambassador Alumni

Green For All's first class of College Ambassadors has laid a strong foundation for the upcoming class of Ambassadors as a result of their completion of the program, and has provided Green For All with some honest feedback on various aspects of the program.

During the fall semester of 2010, Green For All's College Ambassadors were responsible for coordinating and facilitating over 30 workshops on various topics. These workshops highlighted the benefits of a green economy, inspiring HBCU students thorough out the southeast region of the U.S. The Ambassadors' workshops also exposed a great number of HBCU students to the mission of Green For All and the broader movement. During the spring semester, the Ambassadors also spearheaded campus-based sustainability initiatives.

Clark Atlanta University

Jonitka Hall

Jonitka S. Hall was born in North Carolina and received her Associates of Arts degree at Bard College at Simon's Rock before transferring Clark Atlanta University. She is a member of the University's Sustainability Council and has had the privilege of working with many local non-profits. Currently, she is a senior biological science major.

When I reunited with my fellow Ambassadors at the end of our Ambassadorship, I realized the true value of this program. Our collective and individual growth was very visible as a resulted of our training and time as Green For All College Ambassadors.

Kendell Thomas

Kendell Thomas is a Junior Finance Major at Clark Atlanta University and a native of Oakland, CA. Before arriving to CAU, he received an AA degree from Chabot College in liberal studies. Growing up in an impoverished community, Kendell noticed how joblessness contributes to the drug abuse and violence among his family and friends. He believes the green jobs movement has the potential to address these issues.

This program has truly giving me an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I learned so much about my community and myself. My ambassadorship has given a solid understanding of the needs and the benefits of an inclusive green economy. Thank you Green For All for investing into my leadership development.

Dillard University

Charne Thomas

Charne Thomas is a Sophomore Chemistry Pre-Dentistry Major at Dillard University. Currently, she is starting an ecological studies based organization called “DU-SEEDS” on campus. This organization will help students to adapt a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Through out this nine month journey, we've had some ups, and downs. However, the overall experience was well worth it. Through my Ambassadorship, I was able to push myself to different levels that I didn't know exist. In addition, I have developed a great friendship with my campus partner Nadine Wallace and I'm proud of the friendship we have formed. Now that my term is over, I realized that in order to see change, you must be the change. I am proud to say that I am a part of the Green For All family.

Nadine Wallace

Nadine Wallace is a Junior at Dillard University; she is a Biology Major with Minors in Chemistry and Spanish. Nadine is a scholar-athlete, member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honors Program, and a future LAMP Program scholar.

My experience with Green For All has allowed my eyes to be opened to a side of life that I never knew existed. From being able to work directly with the Deep South Center of Environmental Justice, to working with Pam Broom in order to coordinate an on-campus greenhouse garden, life as a Green For All College Ambassador was great and rewarding to say the least. The stipend at the end of every month did not hurt either. A hats off to all of those who diligently worked to make our first year experience memorable and totally awesome!

Elizabeth City State University

Cassidy Cannon

Cassidy Cannon is a Junior Marketing Major at Elizabeth City State University, and she serves as the Vice President of External Affairs within the Student Government Association. Her position consists of planning community service events, community outreach and sustainability efforts. She is dedicated to protecting the planet. Being that this is the inaugural year for her position, she has an opportunity to build a green framework for future leaders at her university.

This year, I became a Green For All College Ambassador, which I am very excited about because this opportunity introduced me to a whole new world on my campus. I would like to thank Green For All for an amazing year and so many opportunities. I hope we may work together again next year!

Nikita Piercy

Nikita Piercy is a Mathematics major and Secondary Education Minor at Elizabeth City State University. She was born in Virginia Beach, VA and was raised in New Jersey. She is currently the Student Government Association Vice-President of Finance for the 2010 -2011 school year. She is looking forward to converting her campus into a greener environment!

My experience as a Green For All College Ambassador has changed not only my undergraduate years, but also my life. From creating a recycling system on my campus to informing my fellow classmates on energy and water conservation, my ambassadorship has changed my campus and myself for the better.

Florida A & M University

Jomar Floyd

Jomar Floyd is a Senior Health Care Management Major at FAMU in Tallahassee, FL. He was born and raised in Jackson, MS and moved to Florida during the summer of 2001. He has been working in the environmental movement since fall 2008 when he lobbied in Florida’s Capitol for renewable energy, protesting against “Biomess “plants and coal plants. He also lobbied in Washington, D.C during Power-Shift 2009.

I would like to thank Markese, Julian, Mary, and Phaedra for the great opportunity you all afforded us in the FAMU Community to continue this fruitful relationship with GFA. The program was a great concept that Markese envisioned, which later came to reality by working with great people at GFA. I will look forward to working with GFA in the near future soon.

Ursula Ible

Ursula Ible is a Junior Public Relations student at Florida A & M University and a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She interned with the City of Tallahasse working in the Environmental Policy & Energy Resources Department. Her aspirations for the future include PR and establishing clean energy and environmental justice in minority communities on a global scale.

I am proud to be involved with the Green For All College Ambassador Program because I was given the opportunity to inform my fellow students about the opportunities as well as the benefits that the green movement will bring about for our lives, our communities, and our planet. I look forward to bringing future initiatives to life at our university.

Howard University

Illai Kenney

Illai Kenney is a Senior Telecommunications Management Major at Howard University focusing on making her campus sustainable, including socially responsible investing, recycling, community development, and more. She wants to see her fellow students learn green habits while at school that they can take with them into their future endeavors.

Working with Green For All has changed the way I view being an employer. My experiences with Green For All definitely will impact the way I run my business in the future. Jordan Rivers

Jordan Rivers is from Detroit, Michigan and is a Junior Civil-Environmental Engineering Major at Howard University. He has been organizing in pursuit of justice since his junior year of High School, at age 16. He hopes to spark a movement that changes the way people, starting with low-income communities and communities of color, view themselves in relation to the environment. Mr. Rivers wants to support not only their participation, but their leadership in the green movement.

Green for all has done an amazing job at putting me in contact with valuable resources. The knowledge and experience I have gained during this program excites me as I embark on a career dedicated to developing a sustainable future for the next generation.

Jackson State University

Alicia Crudup

Alicia Crudup is a Senior Entrepreneurship Major at Jackson State University and a native of Forest, Mississippi. She has four years of experience in organizing environmental projects within Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), an organization focused on students becoming entrepreneurs. Last school year, 2009-2010, she spearheaded the SIFE’s Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability Challenge.

The Green Jobs Movement that we are creating is our way of giving back not only to Mother Earth, but also to our families, friends, and communities. I am very proud to be a part of this effort. This will be a legacy that I will leave behind not only for my own children, but also for others' children as well.

Whitney C. Jones

Whitney C. Jones is a Senior Entrepreneurship Major from Jackson State University and will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration in May, 2011. Upon graduation she will pursue a Masters degree also in Business Administration. She has a thirst for knowledge and finds value in activities that involve learning and growth. She finds personal fulfillment through helping others and opportunities that promote positive change.

Green for All is the organization that has given me the knowledge and experience that has helped to shape my character. I have thoroughly enjoyed this program and I'll never forget how it has impacted me in the best of ways. GREEN FOR ALL ROCKS!!!

Morehouse College

D'Andre Ball

D'Andre Ball is a Senior Political Science Major at Morehouse College, and originally from Vallejo, CA. D'Andre is interested in creating sustainable career opportunities for low-income communities. After undergrad, D'Andre plans on attending law school and pursuing a career in public service in the Bay Area.

Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams is a Junior Music Major from Calhoun City, Mississipi by way of Memphis, TN. He serves the community and institution as a Bonner Scholar, and is a proud brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc. His passion, which proceeded even his full understanding of the movement was ignited when he became aware of the possiblities that a green economy holds for the impoverished, especialy those lacking higher education or solid career paths. He is excited be a part of what the future holds.

This program has been excellent exposure to what it takes to makes things happen, as well as the relationships you can build along the way. Thank you Green For All for the opportunity to serve and learn.

Morris Brown College

Sherita McCormick

Sherita McCormick is a Freshmen Nursing Major at Morris Brown College and a native of Detroit, Michigan. She is dedicated to helping Detroit get back on its feet by advocating for an inclusive green economy strong enough to bring manufacturing jobs back to America.

North Carolina A & T University

Cassie Brown

Cassie Brown is a Senior Laboratory Animal Science and Biotechnology Major at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has always had an interest and passion for environmental issues. Recently, she has been working on and assisting with various green initiatives around campus.

Justin Gaither

Justin Gaither is a Junior Public Relations Major from Raleigh, NC currently attending North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University. Last summer he had the opportunity of interning with the Environmental Protection Agency learned the value of being involved in environmental and community issues.

There is an exciting new feeling around North Carolina A&T and a lot of students are thinking the 2011 – 2012 school year holds a lot of promise and change. I would love to still be involved with the Green for All College Ambassador program as well as the organization as a whole.

Spelman College

Samantha Akwei

Samantha Akwei is a Senior at Spelman College majoring in English who transferred from Medgar Evers College in Harlem, New York. Samantha is the fourth of seven children with parents from Ghana. Growing up in a big family, writing poetry was a creative outlet to express herself. Since then Samantha has gotten involved with spoken word poetry and was fortunate enough to become one of the five winners of the Knicks Poetry Slam in 2005 and one of the five winners of the Urban Word Poetry Slam Team of 2007 in New York, which came third in the nation at Brave New Voices. Her future goals consist of going to law school after college and becoming an international attorney so that she can help others not only find their voices but vocalize their problems and solve them worldwide.

As a Green For All College Ambassador at Spelman College, it was such a rewarding experience to educate students about how the simple color GREEN can and will change their lives.

Sache Jones

Sache Jones is a Junior International Studies/Spanish Double Major on a Sustainable Development Track at Spelman College, and is originally from Baltimore, MD. Interested in serving others from a young age, Sache worked with SGA, Baltimore City Youth Commission and several non profit initiatives in Baltimore. In 2007, she had the opportunity to leave the United States for the first time as a volunteer with Bridges to Community providing sustainable living options, like latrines and electric stoves, in Nicaragua. Since then, Sache has been committed to re-greening our communities and providing sustainable living opportunities to the world's populations.

As a Green For All College Ambassador, I have access to information and events that I would not have otherwise. With the help of Green For All and others in my College Ambassador network, I am ready to work towards unfolding my vision.
