Today, the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010 cleared the House Energy & Commerce Committee.  The bill, designed to create jobs fast by making American homes more energy-efficient, will save consumers money on their electric bills and kick start our hard-hit construction industry.

The statement, from Green For All CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, follows:

“As an organization dedicated to building broad opportunity through green investment, we applaud today’s House Committee vote on Home Star.  The legislation is a step closer to becoming law and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs for American families.

“It is important to note the strengthened job quality and access provisions included.  These measures set the framework to help build a long-term, high-road construction industry and helps to ensure that low-income people and communities of color have access to these opportunities.

“We thank our champions on the Hill, including Representatives Rush and Lee, for their steadfast commitment to expand opportunity and equality in the clean-energy economy.

“Home Star is a fast but efficient way to improve the health, wealth, and well-being of our most vulnerable communities and provide pathways into prosperity for American workers.  It is a win for our environment and a win for our economy.  We look forward to working with our partners both on and off the Hill towards a swift vote on this important legislation.”
