Has Michelle Obama been snooping around GreenForAll.org?

I've been doing my best to NOT obsessively follow the first family's every move, but I slipped a little today: Michelle Obama is planting an organic vegetable garden at the white house.

The New York Times reports:

"While the organic garden will provide food for the first family’s meals and formal dinners, its most important role, Mrs. Obama said, will be to educate children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at time when obesity has become a national concern."

Maybe Michelle has been spending time with her fellow Chicagoans Orrin Williams and LaDonna Redmond, whose urban agriculture initiative Growing Home provides healthy food, and jobs, to people on the South Side.

Or maybe she stumbled across this video on GreenForAll.org?

Applause for Michelle Obama

I am very proud of Michelle Obama for setting an example for our nation. We really need such a positive role model during this time and she has step up to the plate. I think we should all think outside the box and learn from others about our part of the solution. She continues to inspire me with an amazing strength and leadership. Let's focus on the positive and see where that takes us. She is such an inspiration.

Symbolism?

That's great. But what would be even better is if the President took the trillions he wants to spend on buying banks' toxic assets and instead nationalize the banks and invest in green jobs.

Symbolism is powerful and important. The new Obama garden sends a green message as well as a "victory garden" message - we're in these tough times together and must help ourselves and each other. And yes, we need those green jobs too!
