Buffalo

In Buffalo, Green For All is working with local leaders to develop Green Jobs for Buffalo, a program that will combine education, job training, and job placement while contributing to the revitalization of low-to moderate-income neighborhoods. Green Jobs Buffalo will develop career ladders in emerging employment sectors — with a focus on energy-efficiency and renewable-energy retrofitting of affordable housing, regional food system development, and environmental stewardship — and will establish certification steps throughout the job-training process.

Campaigns

Green Jobs–Green New York

Green For All is supporting the efforts of PUSH Buffalo, a member of the Green Jobs–Green New York Advisory Council, to include labor standards, community benefits, and other best practices in the state energy-efficiency retrofit program.

Leveraging the Community Reinvestment Act

Green For All and PUSH Buffalo hosted a convening in July 2010 to explore the potential of the CRA to spur green investments from major financial institutions in local, triple-bottom-line projects.  Read more about our work on the CRA.

Local Partner

State and Local Initiatives - Buffalo

People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo) mobilizes residents to create strong neighborhoods with quality affordable housing, expand local hiring opportunities, and advance economic justice in Buffalo. PUSH organizes neighborhood residents to help build a democratic, action-oriented organization capable of addressing poor housing conditions and the lack of living-wage jobs in their neighborhoods.

Communities of Practice

State and Local Initiatives - Buffalo

Green For All’s Communities of Practice facilitate innovation and sharing among on-the-ground practitioners throughout the country working on programs and policies to address climate change and create pathways out of poverty through green-collar jobs. Buffalo members of the Communities of Practice include PUSH Buffalo.

Fellowship

Green For All's Fellows innovate and organize for change in their cities. Green For All Fellow Clarke Gocker has been leading and documenting PUSH Buffalo's initiative to build a local multi-stakeholder coalition of home performance contractors, organized labor, grassroots training organizations, and low income communities of color in the creation of a community jobs pipeline that can serve as the centerpiece of efforts in Western New York to implement a new statewide energy efficiency retrofit program, Green Jobs/Green NY (GJGNY).
