Local Government Commitment

The Green Recovery Local Government Commitment is a way for public officials to show their support for a green recovery for all. It is a good first step.

Instructions for Community Leaders:

Step 1: Ask your Public Official to Sign the Commitment

Download the Local Government Commitment. Set up a meeting with your Mayor or another local official to talk about signing the Commitment. For tips on meeting with public officials, read our Recovery Toolkit. To strengthen your position, consider asking other organizations to sign the Community Commitment first.

Step 2: Work with them to Implement the Commitment

After the commitment is signed, it is important for you to work with your public official to take the next step. The commitment itself won't ensure green-collar jobs and pathways out of poverty are created. The key is to work with the person who signs it to find out what the city's Recovery plans are and how to insert provisions into those plans for living wages and strong benefits for workers and career training and services for people with barriers to employment.

Step 3: Celebrate, Publicize, and Leverage Success

Your local officials are probably as invested in the success of the Recovery Package as you are, if not more. As you are able to help create good green jobs and training opportunities, celebrate these victories publicly and leverage them for greater change. To learn how to go deeper in your city or town, join one of our Communities of Practice.
