Oakland, CA – Today, Green For All released the following statement upon the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement on the tough new air quality standards that will improve our air by reducing the amount of soot that can be released by our nation’s polluters.
“Clean air regulations save lives. Without stronger measures to reduce soot and other dangerous toxins that are released into the air, millions of Americans will continue to face long-term illnesses, like asthma, and premature death,” said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All. “I’m pleased that the Administration is taking a stand for the children and communities that are disproportionately affected by these harmful pollutants. We all must join President Obama in calling on our nation’s largest polluters to take responsibility for improving the quality of the air we breathe.” Improving air quality for our low-income and communities of color is a priority for Green For All. Earlier this month, Green For All and the NAACP announced a partnership in support of another set of critical regulations, the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards, which will finally limited the amount of toxins coal-fired power plants can release into the air. The groups have launched a Tumblr page and Toolkit to help communities spread the word and organize to support the standards.
