On Saturday, June 22nd, Green For All joined our partner EVgo at the inaugural OC Green Expo in support of their Communities Charging For Change program. With nearly 1000 attendees, it was an opportunity to showcase Green For All’s #FuelChange program, providing resources to promote a more sustainable transportation lifestyle and reduce our community’s carbon footprint.
Throughout the day, EVgo gave demonstrations of their fast charging stations in conjunction with the expo’s electric vehicle test drives, which allowed guests to experience what it’s like to get behind the wheel of an EV and learn about the charging infrastructure across the country.
Green For All connected with attendees, discussing the many benefits of electric vehicles, from environmental to financial. With electric vehicle fast chargers, such as the ones EVgo are opening around the US, the cost of fueling an EV can be dramatically lower than traditional diesel gasoline. Beyond that, with transportation being the largest CO2 emitting sector in the country, transitioning to electric vehicles is one way to positively impact your individual carbon footprint.
Studies that low-income and communities of color are disproportionately impacted by the negative effects of transportation pollution, such as asthma and other respiratory issues, with children being at an even higher risk. This is one reason that Green For All is proud to be partners with EVgo.
In 2019, EVgo launched the Communities Charging for Change initiative to promote access to electric vehicle charging for all. Under this initiative, EVgo introduces the Equal Access Charging Hub program together with local partners to deploy new public fast charging hubs in California communities that bear a disproportionate pollution burden in San Diego, Los Angeles, and in the Bay Area.
Some of the highlights from the day included raffling off two electric scooters to the excited crowd and sharing information of our #FuelChange4Kids art program, which runs until July 24th. Green For All is also continuing our work in support of EVgo, with upcoming events in Oakland and San Leandro, dates to be announced.
