Authors: ada Today the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Environment held a hearing on HOME STAR. The proposed legislation would incentivize home energy efficiency retrofits, and create jobs in related sectors such as construction and manufacturing. HOME STAR will create tens of thousands of jobs while reducing energy bills for consumers and positively impacting the environment. Witnesses included representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Association of Manufacturers, and a variety of stakeholder groups related to energy-efficient building and manufacturing. Each conveyed a simple but important message: HOME STAR is a triple win that will create jobs, generate consumer savings, and positively impact the environment. In his opening statement, Representative Markey (D-MA), the Subcommittee Chair, echoed that HOME STAR is a significant opportunity to create jobs while simultaneously saving money and energy for homeowners. Rep. Markey is a strong champion for energy efficiency and clean energy. Last year, Green For All worked closely with Rep. Markey and his staff to include two important provisions in the American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454) to ensure job quality and job access in the clean energy economy. Today's hearing in the House follows on the heels of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing last week about job creation through programs that promote energy efficiency. We expect to see HOME STAR to be introduced as formal legislation in the House or Senate soon, and will call on your support when it does.
