WASHINGTON – Yesterday, NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous announced that he will step down in January after five strong years of leadership at the nation’s largest U.S. civil rights organization.
Statement of Green For All CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins
Ben Jealous’ bold leadership as President and CEO of the NAACP will be felt for years to come. His willingness to take principled stands and be an outspoken advocate for justice, including his commitment to the environment with the creation of the NAACP Climate Justice Initiative, have made a difference in ensuring that all in America have the respect and dignity they deserve, access to opportunity, clean air and water, and the right to fully participate in the political process.
He’ll leave the NAACP stronger and more prepared to tackle both the modern challenges to civil rights and the new opportunities to achieve advancements in social justice.
I have no doubt that Ben’s future endeavors will continue to make a difference in the lives of all Americans. We wish him well and look forward to continuing to stand with him on the frontlines of social change.
