OAKLAND - No agency has more capacity to protect us from pollution and climate change than the EPA. Over the past four years, EPA has been the leader in keeping dangerous chemicals out of our air and water. As a result of safeguards on mercury, soot, and other pollution, we now face far fewer cases of asthma and premature death.
As head of EPA’s clean air division, Gina McCarthy has been a champion for clean air safeguards and fuel-saving vehicles. But the political delay and difficulties surrounding McCarthy's confirmation show that she will need the complete backing and assistance from the White House and our national leaders to do her job, especially as America continues its fight against climate change. We look forward to finally working with Administrator McCarthy in making sure that we continue to gain ground in holding polluters accountable and putting our kids’ health first.
