Tucked away in the Clearwater Mountains of North Central Idaho, Elk City, Idaho lies within the boundaries of 2.2 million acres of the Nez Perce National Forest. Its population is 500. FOC has created an integrated economic development program to address the economic decline and environmental deterioration that the community and surrounding forest have faced for many years. Their "Jobs in the Woods" program creates educational opportunities and full-time jobs in the fields of Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Forest/Watershed Restoration.
