JWMacklin.jpgJerry W. Macklin, a native of San Mateo, California, is the eldest son of a Pentecostal minister. He, and his wife, Vanessa founded Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ, in Hayward, California, in 1978. With more than (40) active ministries, bringing life and hope to a diverse community, this servant church is a dynamic voice throughout Northern California. Responding to humanitarian crises in America and around the world, Glad Tidings continues to mobilize and equip hundreds of caring people, who are making a difference.

In 1992, Pastor Macklin established Northern California Community Development Corporation (NCCD). Working with civic and community leaders, they led this deteriorating, marginalized, South Hayward community through a major revitalization. Empowered through economic development, housing, community policing, and education, today this neighborhood is known by many as the Glad Tidings Campus. As a catalyst for change, this community leader has served as a board member to St. Rose Hospital, Patten University, and as an Executive Board Member for Prison Fellowship USA, Lansdowne, Virginia.

In the Church of God in Christ, Bishop Macklin’s leadership has spanned four decades, including National Sunday School Superintendent, and founding Chairman of AIM, COGIC Summer Conventions. In November of 2004, this servant leader was elected to the General Board, of the Church of God in Christ. In 2006, he ascended to the chairmanship of Pentecostal Charismatic Churches of North America. In 2007, he was elevated to the office of 2nd Assistant Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., under the Leadership of Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

Bishop Macklin has been the recipient of numerous citations, honors, and awards, including the Bay Areas Most Influential African American Clergyman, John N. Pappas Humanitarian Award, and City of Hayward Lifetime Achievement Award. On September 19th of 2013 Bishop Macklin was honored to deliver the invocation for the 113th United States Congress.
