The President is in a difficult position: zero net job growth in August, a difficult election in fourteen months. But millions of children have it much worse. Millions of kids live in areas where the air makes them sick, where a deep breath could trigger a terrifying asthma attack. Nine million children have asthma, according to the National Institutes of Health, including one in six African-American children. And 186 million people breathe unhealthy air today because our ozone standard is too weak. These children can't clean the air themselves. They can't demand that polluters cut back on particulate emissions or mercury or ozone. All they can do is take little breaths and hope. They rely on us to do the heavy lifting. Though they don't know it, they rely on the President and the EPA. Green For All is deeply committed to getting Americans back to work. We oppose the government setting standards that do nothing but make it harder to give people jobs. But we stand strongly behind making our environment cleaner and our children healthier. We stand firmly with other environmental organizations, with the Lung Association and with the EPA itself in saying: the time to reduce the amount of ozone in the air over our cities is now. Not in 2013. Now. Instead, our children are being asked to wait. Why?

The beauty - and danger - of capitalism is that it's survival of the fittest. Some companies, a few of them, survive and thrive. Many - most - don't. Unfortunately, Solyndra didn't. It's unfortunate primarily because, in a difficult economy, the loss of 1,100 jobs is a tragedy, with deep impacts on hundreds of families. But it's also unfortunate because Solyndra was helping to lead the charge toward the inevitable green economy. There is a critical point we must make. Capitalism's survival of the fittest only works on a level playing field. Solyndra - like many other clean energy companies - are competing evenly in the United States, but on an extremely slanted field globally. Solyndra was facing, in particular, Chinese companies that received massive subsidies from the Chinese government. The investment our government made in Solyndra wasn't a hand-out; it was an attempt to help balance the playing field. But that attempt was one-tenth, one-twentieth what its Chinese competition saw. That Solyndra competed at all is remarkable and laudable. We have a choice. We can choose to compete in the global economy, or we can choose to import our solar panels - and our batteries, and our water, and everything else - from overseas. We can choose to fight harder to keep jobs for workers like those at Solyndra; we can choose to make feeding those kids a priority. Or we can give up on our nation's future. It's our choice.

The partners seek to raise awareness about critical water issues through a community service event on Thursday, April 21, 1:30 pm, at the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance, 1442 Richland Road SW in Atlanta. (Map to location: bit.ly/fXMNYA) Under the guidance of the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), students from Dobbs Elementary will serve together by planting a rain garden (aids in water treatment) and completing a frog and turtle pond. The service day will also include educational session around water treatment and water conservation from local Green For All Fellows and Ambassadors, that will provide participants with kits and information that can help them save water at home and at school “Saving our planet’s water systems – saving our planet – doesn’t have to be difficult,” said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All. “Any community can develop innovative ways to address its local environmental needs. We’re thrilled to be able to work with The Ludacris Foundation and schoolchildren in Atlanta to prove that.” Access to clean water isn’t a future problem, it’s a current problem facing many – particularly, America’s low-income communities and communities of color. There is no more critical function for a government to play than protecting the health and safety of its citizens. Standards to keep pollutants out of our air and water - protections that have been proven to save lives and keep children healthy - are not simply chips on a poker table to be played. We're certainly heartened by the Administration's statement that they oppose efforts to tie a massive attack on the EPA to budget negotiations. Americans need to know that their President will stand up for their health and quality of life. And the President should know that Americans will stand with him in fighting for those protections.

LOS ANGELES – Today the Green Jobs Bus rolls into Los Angeles to meet leaders in the California green jobs economy and to educate Americans on how Prop 23 and other legislation threatens the emerging industry. "California has a new, clean economy that's just starting to take off, creating jobs making solar panels, inventing new fuels and building wind turbines," said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All. "We are sending our Green Jobs Bus on the road for 100 hours to meet the people dedicated to creating jobs for Californians in this new economy." The Green Jobs Bus departed from the Green For All Oakland office at Noon on Monday October 25th and will return at 4:00pm on Friday October 29th. So far, the bus has made stops in Sacramento, Madera and Fresno. When the bus returns after its 100 hours on the road, there will be 100 hours left to vote on Prop 23. In Sacramento, the Green Jobs Bus team interviewed Mayor Kevin Johnson at the Sacramento Clean Tech Showcase. "We already have over 100 clean tech companies in our community that employ over 2,000 people," said Mayor Johnson. "AB 32 is a job generator and Prop 23 is trying to stop that so we need all elected officials to advocate for innovative policies... policies that accelerate opportunities for clean tech... the one growing sector in California, a very down economy." In Los Angeles, the Green Jobs Bus stops include, the Los Angeles Business Council, Capstone Turbine Corporation, Green Box Movers and a local sustainable furniture manufacturer. LAS VEGAS – On Wednesday October 13th, Green For All – in partnership with the Dew Tour – hosts an event to promote Protect the 360°, a campaign to engage and activate the action-sports community in efforts to curb climate change. The initiative is a direct response to fans’ concerns over global warming and its impact on outdoor sports. WHAT: Dew Tour athletes team up with local kids to clean a skate park and install recycling bins.
