The 21st century is our time to build an inclusive green economy in the United States that benefits our communities, our working families and our planet.

Right now a green future is being invented in cities and counties across the US by local leaders – mayors, county executives, community activists, local business owners, and youth organizers- in brief all of us.

In partnership with the Apollo Alliance, Center for American Progress, Green For All and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, Mayor Martin Chavez (Albuquerque, NM) and County Executive Ron Sims (King County, WA), have jointly issued a call to action to build a green economy from the bottom up.  At its annual meeting on June 24, 2008, the U.S. Conference of Mayors committed to sign on to the Local Government Green Jobs Pledge and "join together as a movement of local governments across the U.S. to seize the economic, environmental, and social opportunities offered by building an inclusive green economy of high quality jobs and a thriving green workforce the development of an inclusive green economy." For all of the resolutions adopted at the meeting, see www.usmayors.org/76thAnnualMeeting/AdoptedResolutions.pdf (pages 12-13). We ask you to join this wave of local action for a just, healthy, sustainable future.

ASK YOUR LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIAL TO SIGN THE PLEDGE!
We’ve prepared a packet of materials for Mayors and County Executives who are ready to commit to building an inclusive green economy in their communities.
