Retrofit America's Cities
Green For All is developing a Community of Practice, (learning network) to support the creation of municipal-scale programs for energy retrofits of building stock. As part of the Retrofit America's Cities Community of Practice, Green For All is partnering with COWS on the Efficiency Cities Network. The Efficiency Cities Network is intended to support government staff, researchers, technical assistance providers, non-profit organizations and others that are currently active in or committed to energy retrofitting in their cities. Members of this network will be able to access conference calls, webinars and printed resources on how to bring such programs to scale. Members of the network are encouraged to share their own experiences, policy prescriptions, and best practices.
The low-hanging fruit for cutting the green house gas emissions that lead to climate change and for creating good, green jobs is through energy efficiency retrofits of homes and buildings. While energy retrofitting makes a lot of sense and saves people money, very few Americans do it.
The Retrofit America’s Cities Community of Practice supports the creation of city-scale energy retrofit programs that help communities overcome the barriers to retrofitting, dramatically increase the demand and delivery of energy retrofits, and in the process create family-supporting wage jobs for people facing barriers to employment.
Discussion forums, conference calls and resources shared with this Community of Practice will focus on answering the following questions:
- What is a city-scale retrofit program and how does it work?
- Who are the actors in a given city that need to be organized to create such a program?
- What examples and models exist of cities pursuing energy retrofit programs at scale?
- What funding streams within the Recovery Act and beyond can be leveraged for supporting city-scale retrofit programs?
As part of the Retrofit America's Cities Community of Practice, Green For All is partnering with COWS on the Efficiency Cities Network, a network of government staff, researchers, non-profit organizations and others seeking technical assistance on how to bring such programs to scale in their cities. Members of the Community of Practice will be able to participate in the Efficiency Cities Network webinars and are encouraged to share their own policy prescriptions and best practices.
