Software for Managing Retrofit Programs

Posted by Bob Higbie at March 15. 2010

I've put together a white paper which reviews the currently available software designed to manage energy retrofit programs.  I didn't find much in the way of off-the-shelf applications, so the paper is primarily a discussion of what an open sourced application might look like.

From my experience building and selling software, the most prevalent applications are roll-your-own systems generally  built on spreadsheets or small databases.  I'm curious:

  • What systems do people use to manage their programs?   Some people I've talked to still use paper (!) forms.
  • Have you built any spreadsheets or databases?
  • What are your biggest data problems?  Reporting?  Job orders?  Intake?

If you get a chance to read the white paper

(it's short!, it's not technical!), I'd like to hear your feedback on the concept.  If the volume of retrofits is going to grow anywhere near what is expected, I can only think some sort of management and reporting system is going to be needed.

Also, I'm blogging on the topic at BobHigbie.com

Thanks,

Bob
