Green Elementary School Curriculum training
Up to Green Curriculum
We've developed and tested a program that gets children, parents and teachers in elementary and K-8 schools started on the process of going green at home and at school. PTAs love to pay for our exciting and informative one-day program. In that day we start with a teachers meeting in the morning, then we see the kids one grade level at a time and every grade gets to experience one age-appropriate piece of the climate change puzzle. We don't lecture the kids. It is an activity session held in the gym. We hold an all school assembly at the end of the day and dramatically go over the carbon cycle with the whole school. That evening parents come in, kids show them what they have experienced, and each family creates a Family Sustainability Checklist that they pledge to follow. Our theme is "No Guilt, No Fear, Lots of Fun, Ends with Hope!"
Starting in September and October 2009 I'll be training teams to go to schools to present the program. We are organized as a 501c3 project. Find out more at http://www.climatechangeiselementary.com. My question is whether we'd be eligible to apply for support for this training. One outcome will be that as a result of our program families and schools all over the US will be demanding green retrofits, new reflective roofs, solar hot water, and other green products and services for their new green lifestyles. How might we apply for funding to cover the training program? Our goal is to have one trained team in every major metropolitan area within three years, all supported by PTAs.
