Financial Support for Green Collar Workers

Posted by Roxy Caines at March 03. 2010

Many workers entering the green sector for the first time will earn income making them potentially eligible for the Earned Income Credit (EIC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC).  These refundable tax credits can provide workers refunds worth thousands of dollars and boost their income so that they have money to keep up with household bills, take care of their families and avoid financial hardship.

Do you currently sharing information about the EIC, CTC and free tax filing assistance with your green job training programs?

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities coordinates Money Talks! Have You Heard?, a National Tax Credit Outreach Campaign to help workers learn about the EIC and CTC and how to claim them.  Since green jobs represent a pathway out of poverty, it is important to let green collar workers know about these resources.  As part of the Campaign, the Center produces a comprehensive tax credit outreach kit to help organizations inform workers about the tax credits and free tax filing assistance.  This year’s kit includes a new chapter on how to reach out to “Workers Employed in Green Jobs”.
