Jan 06, 2010

Today, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis announced nearly $100 million in grants to train workers for jobs in the green-energy sector, as authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The statement, from Green For All Chief Executive Officer Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, follows: “As an organization dedicated to building broad opportunity through green investment, we commend the Administration’s announcement of almost $100 million for green-jobs training grants.  This money will make the promise of a clean-energy economy real for workers struggling during these tough times. “We applaud President Obama, Secretary Solis, and Congress for ensuring that green jobs are part of our nation’s recovery.  This money is designed to create jobs and the means to prepare a skilled workforce that is fundamental to lifting our country out of the economic and environmental crises. “But this is more than a legislative victory.  This is an investment in the American dream.  It is a chance for all people to learn and earn in the green economy. “Green For All is proud to have played an integral part in maximizing opportunities for our most vulnerable communities.  We look forward to continuing our work with the Administration and providing more pathways out of poverty through a clean-energy economy.”
