Authors: Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins Today the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010 cleared the House Energy & Commerce Committee, taking one step closer to becoming law! The bill, designed to create jobs fast by making American homes more energy-efficient, is a win for our environment and a win for our economy. It will save consumers money on their electric bills and create hundreds of thousands of jobs for American workers, especially in the hard-hit construction industry. Home Star is a fast but efficient way to improve the health, wealth, and well-being of our most vulnerable communities. It includes strengthened job quality and access provisions, which set the framework to help build a long-term, high-road construction industry and help to ensure that low-income people and communities of color have access to these opportunities. Many thanks to our champions on the Hill, including Representatives Rush and Lee, for their steadfast commitment to expand opportunity and equality in the clean-energy economy. We look forward to working with our partners both on and off the Hill towards a swift vote on this important legislation.
