Green For All: Court Striking Down EPA Rule Hurts Communities of Color

Oakland, CA – Today, Green For All released the following statement in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruling against the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed Cross State Air Pollution Rule, aimed at reducing emissions and pollution from coal-fired power plants. The court’s action will eliminate a law intended to strengthen air quality standards, an important public health safety net.

“Today's decision is a blow to public health,” said Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of Green For All. “This basic safeguard would have protected 240 million Americans--many of them people of color--from asthma and other illnesses caused by pollution. It would have saved our nation millions of dollars in health care costs. It's time to stop protecting big polluters at the expense of our kids' health. Instead, we should be investing in the kind of clean, safe energy that creates good jobs and pathways out of poverty.” ###
