With Estolano comes opportunity to expand L.A.’s successes nationwide
Last week, Green For All announced the very exciting news that Cecilia V. Estolano will be joining our team. Estolano is currently the CEO of the Community Redevelopment Agency in Los Angeles, the largest redevelopment agency in California. She will spearhead Green For All’s effort to scale public-private partnerships that grow family-supporting, green jobs in cities across the country.
In the Senate, mark up of clean-energy bill stalled by opponents.
This week the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee intended to begin its "mark up" of the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act. But Republicans on the committee are refusing to show-up for this process, claiming that they need more analysis on the bill from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Congressional Budget Office.
Nearly 200 organizations urge Senate to adopt energy-efficiency provision in climate legislation
Green For All is part of a coalition of nearly 200 organizations that is pressing the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to adopt a key amendment to the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act. The amendment would create 1 million clean-energy jobs, by requiring utilities to invest in energy-efficiency renovations for millions of buildings nationwide. Tomorrow - International Day of Climate Action erupts across the globe.
Tomorrow, October 24th, is a massive International Day of Action for Climate Justice – the most widespread environmental day of action in the planet's history. At more than 4,000 events in 175 countries across the world, hundreds of thousands of people across the globe will gather to call for an end to global warming.
PG&E, disagreeing over clean energy legislation, quits U.S. Chamber of Commerce
PG&E is quitting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The California utility company cited "fundamental differences" as the reason for leaving the organization, appalled by the Chamber's "extreme views" on climate change and their request for a Scopes-like trial to settle once and for all the issue of global warming.
7/23 Update: New Video about Navajo Green Jobs Campaign
Today the Navajo Nation Council voted to create a Navajo Green Economy Commission! This is a major step towards creating hundreds of jobs on the Navajo Nation. Green For All is proud to have provided technical support for this effort. Read the press release from The Navajo Green Economy Coalition.
"Green-collar" defined... incorrectly.
"Green-collar" is now in the dictionary. The latest edition of Merriam-Webster's Dictionary was just released, and "green-collar" is one of about 100 words that has been added to it. "Vlog" and "locavore" are a couple others that made the cut, according to the AP.... But there is one small problem - Merriam-Webster got the definition wrong!
Jack and Jill Politics tells story of Green For All and equity provisions in ACES
Our friend Cheryl Contee over at JackandJillPolitics.com just posted a great story of how Green For All, our partners, and our supporters successfully pushed to have two key equity provisions included in the American Clean Energy and Security Act.
$500 million for green jobs training - Grant guidelines released!
Today, the Department of Labor (DOL) released grant guidelines for $500 million in green jobs training, including $150 million for "Pathways out of Poverty" grants! This is the money Green For All and our supporters fought hard to have included in the Recovery Act that Congress passed in February.
Urban violence, green jobs, and the Youth PROMISE Act
Our friends at the League of Young Voters are leading the charge for the Youth PROMISE Act, a bill to increase proven programs that reduce crime and violence at the local level. In an article in The Huffington Post yesterday, Julia Rhee, Youth Organizer for Green For All, says of the Act: "We need to speak up and let our elected representatives know that we, as a country, don't believe in throwing away young people and that no one gets left behind."
