Communications Associate

We are seeking a creative, experienced Communications Associate (CA) who will be responsible for supporting efforts to educate and engage the public, media, and key opinion leaders in accomplishing Green For All's mission.  We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in writing, editing, marketing, media relations, content management, and graphic design. Tasks require a strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines. 

The successful candidate will be a smart and passionate communicator with experience and skills in supporting a variety of effective communications strategies.  The CA must be able to work effectively within a fast-paced environment that requires adaptability and a sense of humor. 

The Communications Associate reports to the Communications Director and works as part of a team that includes an Internet Director and a Senior Web Associate.

Primary Responsibilities 

  •  Media Relations - Handle media inquiries and monitor media activities; work closely with public relations firm to contact media and pitch stories; organize press briefings, media sessions, and events.
  • Writing and Editing – develop and edit communications for various purposes including marketing, development, business partnership communications, email, web copy, brochures, case studies, position papers, speeches, articles, and media releases. Assist in development of monthly newsletters.  Proofread communications materials
  • Collateral Production/ Vendor Relations - Interact with vendors including graphic designers, photographers, PR resource people, videographers and editors to develop quality relationships and results.
  • Cross-functional Communication Support – Assist in the production of briefing documents for staff and partners.  Work closely with the Development Associate to track Development Department's collateral material needs. Collaborate with Web Associate to ensure message consistency.
  • Scheduling/Project Management - Coordinate schedule of e-blasts and manage production of monthly newsletters. Assist with coordinating the production of print collateral (brochures, white papers, press releases), including light graphic design. Assist with project management of communications programs and campaigns, and coordination of multiple projects (including responding to media requests, creating vlogs, educational campaigns)
  • Media Records and Collateral Management - Oversee daily flow and maintenance of communications systems including: article files; media database/media tracking; collateral material files and boilerplates; library of communications assets including photography, imagery, videos, and publications
  • Other tasks and duties as needed to assist in implementing marketing/PR plans for top initiatives


Experience & Qualifications 

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem solving skills, and the ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully.
  • Experience with pitching stories to the media and writing for a range of marketing and communications applications.
  • Experience developing effective collateral and promotional materials; comfort working within brand and messaging guidelines.
  • Reliable, responsible, creative, self-starter with professional experience and demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
  • Proven ability in developing, maintaining, and building relationships both internally and externally and achieving results.  Ability to work independently and also to work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
  • Substantive knowledge in Green Economy or related areas (energy, environment, economic development, workforce development, and anti-poverty) along with communications/ media experience at a non-profit public policy organization or large PR firm is desirable.

ASAP. (Goal start date: 3/1/09)
